On 29 December 2021, a consignment of 956,550 doses of AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria) COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Dhaka, donated by Austria to Bangladesh as a sign of solidarity and support during this difficult time of the pandemic.
The vaccines were handed over in a virtual ceremony by Secretary-General Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal to Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen on 27th December. The ceremony was also attended by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Austria, Muhammad Abdul Muhith.
SG Launsky-Tieffenthal and Foreign Secretary Momen also discussed bilateral relations and the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Austria and Bangladesh in 2022.
